This is an ongoing project.
During the early hours of June 14th, 2017 a blaze ripped through Grenfell Tower in the borough of Kensington and Chelsea, London. Even when the ink washes away, the posters fall and the cardboard deteriorates there will still be victims living with the trauma throughout their lives. They may be friends or family of victims or they may be survivors. They will be living with what the tragedy for the remainder of their lives. This series documents the reaction of the disaster by the community. We can see signs, flowers, toys and well wishes for the victims as they deteriorate The layering of the photographs act as memory and we remember in snippets rather than whole, how traumatic events become a whirlwind of a blur. Each photograph documents the well intentions of the community while the layering portrays the memory of the event.
I am very interested in blurriness. How it shows movement in an otherwise still photo. How it makes a photograph seem painterly. But most importantly, how it portrays the idea of imperfection. There is something beautiful about creating something beautiful by doing everything wrong.
